V’Zot HaBracha

Our final parsha begins with the words, “And this is the blessing.” A midrash reads this verse simply as the Torah itself is the blessing, it came to bless the Jewish people with wisdom and life. Similar to food which sustains and nourishes our bodies, Torah is a blessing that nourishes our minds and souls. The Sfat Emet connects Torah and food further, saying that just as we say blessings before and after food, so too with Torah. “The blessing we recite before we eat is for the food itself, which G!d created. The blessing after eating is for the power the food contains to satisfy us as we digest it, and for the strength that food gives to our bodies.” Take a moment to acknowledge the ways in which Torah has nourished you this year.
