Vayikra

In this week’s parsha, Vayikra, Moshe is given instructions of the offerings that are to be brought into the newly sanctified Mishkan. The namesake of this parsha comes from the first line,וַיִּקְרָ֖א אֶל־מֹשֶׁ֑ה וַיְדַבֵּ֤ר יְהוָה֙ אֵלָ֔יו מֵאֹ֥הֶל מוֹעֵ֖ד ׃And he called to Moses, and G!d spoke to him from the Tent of MeetingPresumably it is G!d who calls to Moshe, but the text is ambiguous. It is also curious why in the Torah the first word, וַיִּקְרָ֖א, is written with a miniature aleph. The Me’or Eynayim explains both curiosities so beautifully, “[G!d] is present in miniature form within each [person], calling us to return. Thus, ‘and he called’ is written anonymously in our verse. But, when a person understands that this is the voice of G!d...then [we understand the second half of our verse] ‘and G!d spoke to him from the Tent of Meeting.” Can you hear the call of the ‘anonymous voice’ within? This is the voice of the Divine.
