Shabbat Kodesh Inlay Challah Board - Ready to Ship

$360.00

Every color on this board comes from the wood itself. There are no dyes, stains, or epoxy fills. The Hebrew lettering is cut from maple. Each piece is inlaid by hand into a solid walnut board, so the design sits flush with the surface, and the grain runs through every letter.

The board is approximately 9.75" × 16", sized to hold two small or one large loaf side by side for hamotzi. The board is finished with Rubio Monocoat, a plant-based, zero-VOC hardwax oil. It bonds with the wood fibers and keeps the natural matte look and feel. The finish is food-safe once cured and resists water and stains. Unlike a traditional oil finish, it doesn’t need regular re-oiling to stay protected.

The Hebrew reads Shabbat Kodesh, “Holy Shabbat,” a reminder that this day is set apart from the rest of the week.

It’s made in my Boston workshop, and it’s meant to become part of your Shabbat table for years to come. It’s also a meaningful gift for a wedding, a housewarming, or a new home.

Care
This board is made for serving and display, not cutting. We recommend either hand-tearing the challah or cutting on a plate for passing. Knives will cut through the finish and damage the inlay.

Wipe clean with a damp cloth, then dry right away. Don’t soak it or put it in the dishwasher. You don’t need to oil it regularly. If the surface ever starts to look dry or dull after years of use, it can be refreshed with a Rubio Monocoat maintenance product. Avoid other oils or conditioners, which can leave the surface sticky.
