Oseh Shalom Olivewood Challah Board
Ready to ship | Navy or Green

Each board is cut from a single piece of olivewood, with a natural live edge along one side and the swirling, marbled grain that makes every olive board one of a kind. At the center is an olive tree, carved into the wood and set against a night sky of hand-poured epoxy tinted with mica powder, which gives it a soft shimmer as the light moves across it. A crescent moon and scattered stars sit above the arch, and the Hebrew below is inlaid in white.

The Hebrew reads Oseh Shalom (עושה שלום), “Maker of peace.” The words come from a prayer that closes the Kaddish and the Amidah: Oseh shalom bimromav, hu ya’aseh shalom aleinu, “May the One who makes peace in the heavens make peace for us.” The olive tree, long a symbol of peace, grows beneath that same sky, a reminder to bring a little of that peace to your own table each week.

The board is about 9" × 16" and fits one large challah or two small loaves. It’s made in my Boston workshop, meant for your Shabbat and holiday table for years to come, and makes a meaningful gift for a wedding, a housewarming, or a new home.

Choose your sky:

Green: a deep forest-green sky, finished with Rubio Monocoat, a plant-based, zero-VOC hardwax oil that bonds with the wood fibers. It keeps the natural matte feel of the olivewood, resists water and stains, and is food-safe once cured.

Navy: a deep midnight-blue sky, finished with Odie’s Oil, a solvent-free blend of natural plant oils and waxes. It’s food-safe once cured and brings out the warmth and depth of the olivewood grain with a soft, hand-rubbed sheen.

Care
This board is made for serving and display, not cutting. We recommend following the tradition of tearing your challah by hand. Knives will scratch the finish and the epoxy inlay.

Wipe clean with a damp cloth and dry right away. Don’t soak the board or put it in the dishwasher, and keep it away from hot pans or direct heat, which can damage the inlay.

Green (Rubio Monocoat): You don’t need to oil it regularly. If the surface ever starts to look dry or dull after years of use, it can be refreshed with a Rubio Monocoat maintenance product. Avoid other oils or conditioners, which can leave the surface sticky over this finish.

Navy (Odie’s Oil): Every few months, or whenever the wood starts to look dry, re-oil with a thin coat of Odie’s Oil or a food-safe board oil. Wipe off the excess and let it sit overnight.

Shipping
The price includes shipping. Products are shipped from Boston, MA within 1–2 business days of orders and take 5–7 business days for delivery. Rush options are available for an additional fee, just contact us here.
