This week, Moshe tells the Israelite people on the brink of the Jordan,כִּ֚י הַמִּצְוָ֣ה הַזֹּ֔את אֲשֶׁ֛ר אָנֹכִ֥י מְצַוְּךָ֖ הַיּ֑וֹם לֹֽא־נִפְלֵ֥את הִוא֙ מִמְּךָ֔ וְלֹ֥א רְחֹקָ֖ה הִֽוא׃ לֹ֥א בַשָּׁמַ֖יִם הִ֑וא...כִּֽי־קָר֥וֹב אֵלֶ֛יךָ הַדָּבָ֖ר מְאֹ֑ד בְּפִ֥יךָ וּבִֽלְבָבְךָ֖ לַעֲשֹׂתֽוֹ׃Surely, this Instruction which I enjoin upon you this day is not too baffling for you, nor is it beyond reach.It is not in the heavens...Neither is it beyond the sea...No, the thing is very close to you, in your mouth and in your heart, to observe it.As we are about to enter the days of Awe, let these words act as a reminder during our seeking for spiritual connection. You need not look for it in the heavens or across the sea. During these days of Awe we are going on a journey, but perhaps it is not in the heavens, but into our own breath and our own heart.
