Naso

This week, G!d instructs Aaron and his sons to bless the Israelite people with these ancient and holy words:יְבָרֶכְךָ֥ יְהוָ֖ה וְיִשְׁמְרֶֽךָ׃May G!d bless you and protect youיָאֵ֨ר יְהוָ֧ה פָּנָ֛יו אֵלֶ֖יךָ וִֽיחֻנֶּֽךָּ׃May G!d deal kindly and graciously with youיִשָּׂ֨א יְהוָ֤ה פָּנָיו֙ אֵלֶ֔יךָ וְיָשֵׂ֥ם לְךָ֖ שָׁלֽוֹם׃May G!d bestow G!d’s favor upon you and grant you peace. The Kohanim, priests, bless people with these same words to this day with outstretched arms. Rav Kook articulates beautifully, “This blessing is part of the Temple service, and at the same time, reflects their interaction with the people. The Kohanim recite the blessing with outstretched arms, a sign that their efforts to uplift the people are an extension and continuation of their holy service in the Temple.” How can we continue to bless and uplift one another in our day to day lives?
